Megan Jenkinson presents a new body of photographic work inspired by her Antarctic Artists' Fellowship, where in the company of scientists she acquired an increasing awareness of the temporal nature of our existence. This, coupled with her reaction to the vast minimal emptiness of the Antarctic environment itself, has inspired a range of work that she considers to be a post-romantic view of our engagement with nature. In the Atmospheric Optics series aurorae give magnificent, spectral, although elusive, performances in the sky. Equally transient are the Certain Islands which appear then disappear from sight. These images, presented as lenticular prints, were inspired by explorers' stories of mythical landforms in the expansive Antarctic Ocean. The Ocean World and Weight of Water series are meditations on other possible permutations of the world - of raised sea-levels, and of oceans inhabited by creatures both beautiful and strange.

Megan Jenkinson will present a talk on Wednesday 11 June at 12.30pm.
