The Effigies series comprises large scale black and white photographs of 'human effigies' ranging from cookie cutters to Lego figures made by the artist's children. Stylistically they reference product photography and traditional studio portraiture, but the scale inversion (the prints are 1.4 metres high, the original objects as small as 25mm) lends the work an almost sculptural presence. Geoffrey H Short studied photography at Elam and worked and exhibited at the pioneering Real Pictures gallery in the 1980s. After time working in the film industry the Effigies series marks his welcome return to the fine arts arena.
