Alberton, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga presents photographer Emma Bass in conversation with Aimee Rafini from Art Ache, as part of the satellite exhibition The Impossible Garden at Alberton.

Blurring the boundaries between photography, painting and collage, Emma’s works which currently fill the historic ballroom at Alberton, examine the beauty of nature with photographed prints of 17th century Dutch and Flemish examples as a starting point.

‘Exploring beauty though a manipulated lens’ the already ‘impossible bouquets’ - constructed with elements from mismatched seasons and in distorted perspectives – are further embellished with objects, natural phenomena and gold gilded Matisse-inspired cut-outs, amplifying their beguiling unreality.

Learn all about these works, Emma’s signature 'floral portrait' photographs and her practice overall in this Artist Talk, followed by tea.

No bookings required but registration is highly recommended as numbers will be limited. Contact Alberton at alberton@heritage.org.nz or 09 846 7367. All attendees will be registered for contact tracing purposes.
