Theme

In the initial stages of learning an artistic discipline students immerse themselves in the language of the medium - its particular vocabulary and grammar. Where photography is concerned they examine its vast catalogue, both historical and contemporary, as well as the wide variety of applications and contexts associated with photographic production. For any artist to find their own voice they must first learn to appreciate the subtleties of difference in the voices that surround them, as well as those that have preceded them. This exhibition evidences this inquiry whilst exploring a diverse mixture of themes: the everyday; popular media; the formation of identity and a sense of place.
