About

LANTERN in February 2009 was another opportunity on the blog to capture and share the colour and flavour of the annual Lantern Festival and Chinese New Year. LANTERN is a festival event of themed work selected from an open public submission process for public exhibition. The Auckland Festival of Photography asked for entries from photographers for presentation on the Auckland Photo Blog in February and all of the entries including the best will be online for a Festival 2009 exhibition.

Thanks for all your LANTERN entries!! We had an unprecedented response on the Blog for the LANTERN photo competition creating an excellent collection of colourful and jubilant images celebrating the Chinese New Year.  We'd like to thank our judge, Nora Yao, Director of the Confucius Institute at Auckland University for taking the time to select a winner from over 200 entries.  A real challenge given the overall quality of the entries. Also thanks to Gravity Coffee and the Asia NZ Foundation for their support.

The exhibition will display selected images/photographs that best reflect the uniqueness and humanity of the Lantern Festival. The people, faces and places in this popular three-day cultural summer celebration of Auckland's diverse Asian community
