Auckland's regional Camera Clubs showcase
Lotus Flowers, North Shore Photographic Society Inc
We're pleased to share that from North to South, East to West areas of our diverse city, Tāmaki Makaurau, dozens of keen amateur photographers are getting their prints ready for exhibitions as part of the Festival 2024. We've been an open access Festival with a joint programme model in place since our inception in 2004, so something we aim to unite our communities around is the appreciation of a good photo!
In Kumeu is the Kumeu Photo Group combined with the local arts group and Charlie Yang (image below), with their 'The Stairwell of Life' exhibition, over in Lake House Arts Centre, Takapuna this year is the North Shore Photo Society with Captured Moment exhibition, out East in Howick is a very active group, Howick Photographic Society showing at Uxbridge Arts and Cultural Centre.
Further south to Manurewa are the Manukau Photogaphy Society, presenting nature images taken in and around the Regional Botanical Gardens, also where they are exhibiting. Then back out West is the annual exhibition by Henderson Photography Society at Te Atatu Library. Believe [whakapono] - Saturday 1st June - Panel announced
This year we continue to offer a selection of free, Talking Culture events in central, urban areas or spots where the community can casually interact whilst out and about with photography dialogue with NZ and international experts, artists, curators and organisations.

Auckland Festival of Photography 2024 has gathered a group of lens-based artists, photojournalists and ‘photography-manipulators’ whose oeuvre relies on or questions this fundamental, human trait of ‘belief.’
From the documentary images captured by NZME photojournalists on the beat through to raw data beamed — from 1.5 million kilometres away — down to earth by Nasa’s Webb Telescope. From documentary stories about the Hauraki Gulf crisis and those capturing the state of our environment or of indigenous peoples, through to flora and seemingly innocent tourist spots from the comfort of cruise ships. This year’s programme succinctly and overtly makes us question where our trust lies and what leaps of faith we are willing — or perhaps forced — to take in order to bridge the gap between our knowledge and the world of visual stimuli we consume daily and at unprecedented speeds.
Believe, or don’t; that is the question.

Aotearoa Music Photography Award 2024 - Closing soon
How does one capture, visually, what is supposed to be captured aurally? Last weekend to enter, deadline is 20 May AFP is accepting entries for the Aotearoa Music Photography Award 2024 with the prize winners announced: 30 May.

This year’s judge is Federico Monsalve, NZ/Auckland based editor and journalist, former editor of D Photo Magazine (New Zealand's leading photography magazine) who has worked within the photography sector to publish news stories, building an archive of written and visual editorial over many years, and career stretching across the arts sector.
