Theodore Holmstead Scott; Untitled; This self portrait was taken during 2020's Level 4 lockdown, as I was working from home towards the completion of my Honours project at Elam School of Fine Arts. The project was an investigation into sexual fetishism and its relationship to ‘queer monstrosity’, a concept lifted from queer studies which draws attention to the ways in which nonconforming bodies are symbolically equated with the grotesque, depraved, unnatural and ‘other’. This image plays with conceptions surrounding ‘furry’ subculture, with reference to werewolf lore and visual cues taken from ‘trail cam’ wildlife photography.
