Jay van Dijk; Ciarann Babbington of Bakers Eddy;Stage front with Ciarann Babbington guitarist and singer of Bakers Eddy at Meow. This would be one of their last shows as a Wellington band, before seeking out warmer waters and making their own waves in the Australian punk scene. Having grown up with with two of the bands members Ciarann and Jamie Gordon I had the luck of following their musical progressions through the years. Ciarann still instills the same rawness an vigour into his vocals as he did his drumming, which would reverberate across our primary school grounds.
Jay van Dijk; Gussy Larkin of Mermaidens;Gussie Larkin pulls the strings as guitarist and singer of Mermaidens. Riding the wave generated by the release of their first EP, Mermaidens played a packed out show at Newtown’s Moon Bar. It was already clear then, that the bands dark, winding melodies and entrancing vocals would bring them to greater things and well deserved renown.
Jay van Dijk; Noel Clayton of the Boptet; Illuminating guitarist Noel Clayton a member of Wellingtons longest standing jazz residency, playing almost every Sunday at the Lido Cafe for over 25 years. A regular attendee from when my mother played keyboard in an another amalgamation of the group, it was always a pleasure to see beloved stalwarts Paul Dyne and Roger Sellars ply their trade. Noel, a postman, delivers his notes with the same unerring, athleticism and attentiveness as he does letters jogging amongst the Karori hills.
