The ‘cosmic’ in midst of the ‘ordinary’. Large prints of deep space & wide-field astrophotography by local photographer Rohit Vig will be visible at venues across Point Chevalier & at Mt Albert Library in weeks leading up to Matariki day. Distant galaxies, nebulae, planets, star constellations, night landscapes - many shot from his inner city backyard using telescopes & everyday lenses.
Most of humanity now lives in midst of light pollution that increasingly obscures our view of the night sky. While we marvel at images from Hubble and JWST, how often do we actually look up at night?
This exhibition is an encouragement to reconnect with the night sky like our ancestors did, to let in its beauty, to feel its significance and to sustain it for future generations. Rohit will also run a free public workshop on “Stargazing from your backyard” at Mt Albert Library.
Indoor: Twisted Tomato Cafe & Mt Albert Library
Outdoor: Coyle Park, selected shopfronts on Pt Chevalier Road, Pt Chevalier Primary School entrance
