Red Earth Reconnaissance is a botanical survey of the Papakura region, centred on the Papakura Art Gallery site and emerging outwards. 'Red earth' makes reference to the Maori name for Papakura, and its soil which is rich in iron oxides. The subjects are selected botanical specimens emerging from, and connected to, this fertile ground.
