Auckland Festival of Photography is proud to present a selectioon of Roman Butym and Pavlo Kyryk’s ‘Validity Period’ exhibition as part of the ‘Sustain’ [Tautinei] theme.
Validity Period is an artistic photo project focusing on the issues of overproduction and ecology through staged photographs.
The project was created in 2021 in Kraków. Over the course of three months, the authors visited local waste collection points. The found objects were used to create installations designed to recreate the atmosphere of domestic life. The work on the project often turned into a performance. Random passersby stopped, approached to talk, took photos, and laughed. Sometimes, they even threatened to call the police. However, most of the time, they pretended not to notice anything.
Roman Butym is a Ukrainian photographer living in Kraków, Poland. He specializes in artistic and reportage photography. His works have been published on the World Press Photo Instagram account, as well as in the online magazines Photo Vogue Italia, The Eye of Photography Magazine, and others.
