Auckland Festival of Photography presents an exclusive showcase by New Zealand artist, Ardit Hoxha as part of the 2025 Festival theme Sustain [tautīnei].

During his residency in Tokyo, Japan in late 2024, Ardit was drawn to the explore the city's buildings, places of idling, interactive sites. In this series of images, Hoxha documents the sites of leisure and recreation he encountered in Tokyo as a Kōwhai artist-in-resident. Drawn to the city’s artifice, Hoxha explores the common strategy of presentation that emerges between these disparate sites and their common origins. Here, the eye is lured by the city’s phantasmagoria in a montage that is part fever dream, part documentation.

Hoxha has previously exhibited text based works at RM Gallery, Te Tuhi and essay works at Gus Fisher Gallery. The Kōwhai Residency in Yōga, Tokyo was made possible by the generous support of Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhon, and our support programme in Japan, T3 Photo Festival Tokyo. 2024 Kōwhai Residency in Yōga, Tokyo was an exclusive NZ photography residency programme established from New Zealand.
