Photos from the GE-Free Movement.
Strict regulation of GE (Genetic Engineering) is the result of a movement that spans 25 years. GE-free is one of the people's movements that has defined New Zealand's identity, from establishing the right of women to vote, to fighting apartheid in South Africa and staying nuclear-free. The photographs recall ordinary people and celebrities who stood up in 2001 to protect natural, GE-free food. In hind-sight they are economic heroes. Exports have thrived. Staying GE-Free has become an economic advantage worth billions each year as part of our reputation as 'pure, natural, safe'.
