Theme

Edith Amituanai's work draws on documentary and constructed photographic traditions. In 2007 she was the first recipient of the Marti Friedlander Photographic Award. In 2008 her exhibition Dejeuner was a Walters Prize finalist. Home/School has developed from La fine del mondo, a series focused on a family who had resettled in Massey from Myanmar. Edith became particularly interested in the children of the family who were first to venture out and make connections in backyards and neighbourhood streets.

In Home/School she follows children and teenagers crossing the undefined space between home and school in her West Auckland neighbourhood.
