2022 Festival wrap up
Image Auckland is a activation of the Awards programme and new experiences throughout the year, outside of June's Festival events and exhibitions. Since November 2021 from North Shore, to the CBD, with 8 street/outdoor exhibitions including the City Rail Link outdoor shows in Mt Eden, K'Road's Hopetoun St, plus Takapuna's exhibition, Auckland Photo Day 2021, May's Music Photo Awards, the NZ wide Youth Photo Award online proving a good platform for celebrating photography and connecting communities. Image Auckland's debut has been an inaugural success, with our research and feedback showing engagement, of approx 39,000.

Thanks to all who supported these shows, Link Alliance, Eke Panuku Development, I Love Takapuna, Shore City and the photographers. Feedback research surveys are still open to participants in our June 2022 Festival and we look forwards to sharing highlights soon.
People's Choice Prize 2022
Online voting in the Auckland Photo Day 2022 People’s Choice category decided the winner - Hernan Grabarnik, Light My Fire, won with the most valid votes. The image shows a cocktail being made at a Waiheke Island bar on the winter's night, Saturday 11th June. One of the few nightlife interiors entered this year. Hernan says he is delighted this image was also supported by the judges in the Top 30 and has won the People's Choice Prize: Instax Mini Evo + 100 shots of film. SRP $499. Total number of votes was 4186 were made during the People's Choice 2022. Thanks to everyone who voted.

New Strategic Plan 2022-2024
Delighted to announce the Festival has just recently completed a thorough review of the Festival's strategic direction and advance business plans with the support of a Arts and Culture Business Development Grant from Auckland Council. We engaged consultants in Brisbane and Auckland to review, refine and refresh the ideas, concepts and challenges for future proofing the Festival in the coming years. We'd like to extend our thanks to SMS Strategic Membership, Australia and Flipview Ltd, Auckland for their excellent professional services for the process.
We'd also like to thank our strategic advisory panel, who took time to test our assumptions, question our plans and help shape them for the future. The panel was based across NZ and in Asia, in Wellington, Simon Woolf, Matakana, Isabella Sullivan, Hyderabad, India, Aquin Mathews and Auckland, Dinesh Khadka plus the external stakeholders who gave feedback on the new plans.
Around Asia Pacific
Japan - Asia NZ Foundation has supported the research and development of the Festival's Japanese partnership with T3 Photo Festival, Tokyo and TIP, in Tokyo, starting with planning a 5 day visit to New Zealand by key practitioners from Tokyo, later this year, for the collaboration and working towards a joint NZ/Japanese photography legacy project. We are excited about this project and look forwards to developing closer ties from August 2022 between Auckland and Tokyo.
Australia - Head On Photo Festival now has an international magazine about contemporary photography, this publication showcases a variety of artists, themes and practice. The recent highlight of their stories is the feature on queer photography, in 'Celebrating Queer Photography'. A great read.
Singapore - Starting in late Sept is the 8th SIPF, and we hope to share more later this year, on October's annual Asia Pacific Photoforum meeting, in person and online, for our 12th anniversary.
China - More news to come in August on the next Festival's 'Disruption' exhibition of NZ photography heading to Pingyao International Photography Festival in China this September.
